facades

Lincoln Park, Chicago, IL

This beautiful red sandstone facade, designed by Chicago's first architect, John Mills Van Osdel, was built in 1895. This home is one of the three "Newman Triplets," identical designs created for the Newman brothers. Years of improper maintenance and restoration had led to significant deterioration of the sandstone. The restoration process involved removing waterproofing material and restoring approximately 520 individual sandstone pieces. Additionally, a few stone pieces were replaced with newly custom-fabricated ones. The entire facade was then repointed with custom lime-based mortar.
