brick repair & restoration

Lincoln Park, Chicago, IL

This stunning Victorian brick home, dating back to the 1880s, underwent a comprehensive facade restoration. The project involved sourcing non-standard-sized bricks that matched the original Victorian era design and replacing bricks in numerous areas, including the intricate corbels that are rarely seen in houses from this period. Due to the deterioration of the steel support system, the base of the brick bay had to be dismantled and completely rebuilt, including the installation of the new steel support system. The entire exterior had its cement mortar removed and replaced with lime mortar. The limestone entryway was meticulously repaired, with the joints repointed using a historically accurate black bead joint. The chimney tops were rebuilt to their original dimensions and style using period-appropriate materials. Additionally, new matching Indiana limestone lintels and sills were fabricated and installed to replace those that had deteriorated.
