stone repair & restoration

W. Adams St., Chicago, IL

Over time, the original limestone stairs had settled due to both an inadequate foundation and rusted steel support. Additionally, the use of deicers containing salts contributed to deterioration of the limestone steps, making them unsalvageable. Stone railings, steps, and sidewalls were carefully dismantled, while necessary repairs were carried out on the existing footing and foundation. The sidewalls were reconstructed using salvaged limestone pieces. New limestone steps, fabricated to replicate the appearance of the originals, were then installed. Finally, the salvaged original limestone railings were restored and reinstalled to complete the renovation.
